Paper lantern lights??

Postby durbaa » Wed May 27, 2009 1:43 pm

Has anyone ever made "throwies" :dontknow: for paper lanterns? I want hang up a bunch of paper lanterns but the lights for them are ridiculous! I found out about these throwies but it will be a last minute DIY and I don't know about all that. Did anybody use these? How were they? Were they a pain to make? Was it worth it? Basically just any information on them would be great! TIA!

Never used them before but I remember reading an instructable about them that looked fairly simple:

i went to Michael's and bought little lights that twist at the bottom. I am using fishing wire to hang them inside the lanterns. They look really good.

FutureMrsBrooks, can you tell me how much they were, how many you needed in your lanterns and how big your lanterns are? Sorry for so many questions

They were really cheap. I got about 20 for 9.99. I have 6 lanterns that are large and 6 small. I am not sure on the actually size, but they are good size. I am very pleased how they look and excited to see them hanging up at the reception outside.

I bought my batteries from http://myworld.ebay.com/cn-kingking and had great success. I bought the lanterns themselves from http://www.paperlanternstore.com/ and the LEDs from http://myworld.ebay.com/cece718 (make sure you get diffused ones). The throwies were really easy to make, I just used black electrical tape. I did it while watching TV and just used some string to hang the lights inside the lantern. I used 8" and 12" for a backyard BBQ and I used 3 lights for the 8" and 6 for the 12" but for a wedding, I probably wouldn't go any smaller than a 12" light.
