Registration and Account Activation Problems

Postby admin » Thu Apr 19, 2007 8:42 am

It seems that a few users have had problems registering with this forum.

The symptoms indicate that the spam filters on their email addresses are preventing registration. Before you register, please change your email filters to accept emails from:
noreply 'at' stlwed 'dot' com

If you do not accept emails from the noreply address when you register, when we send you the confirmation email (which includes the link to activate your account) you may not get it, and then you won't be able to activate the account.

If you have experienced this problem already contact us and we can delete your account and let you start over.

Here are some tips for setting up your spam filters:

Tips for AOL Users:
  1. When you log into AOL's email system the top right should have a button called "Settings" enter the settings and choose "Spam Controls" from the menu on the left. First make sure that your spam filter is set to Medium or Low.
  2. Next click the button to "Control From Whom I get Email". We recommend that you set it to "Allow mail from all senders" but you can play around with those settings, whichever one you choose make sure that noreply 'at' stlwed 'dot' com will end up on the "safe sender" list.
  3. Then click the button to "Control the Content of my Email" and uncheck any of those boxes.
  4. Finally to make sure that even if AOL thinks the email is spam you still can retrieve it from the spam folder and decide for yourself whether it's safe. Make sure that the "Blocked mail should be:" "Delivered to the Spam Folder".
  5. Be sure to save all of your changes to the spam filters when you're done.

Tips for Gmail Users:
Make sure you've added noreply 'at' stlwed 'dot' com to your Contacts list. Gmail always delivers messages from your contacts. Now file a data restoration request and let us know you've added us to your safe list, so we can safely resend your data from the bio builder.

Tips for Hotmail Users:
  1. From inside of your hotmail mailbox at the top right you should see two links "Options" and "Help".
  2. Click "Options", make sure you are in the "Mail Options", and then click "Junk E-Mail Protection"
  3. Click on the link titled "Junk E-Mail Filter" and make sure your filter is set to "Low" or "Enhanced". Exclusive will not work because it will only allow you to receive emails from addresses in your list of contacts.
  4. Click OK to accept your changes and return to the "Junk E-Mail" Protection page.
  5. Click "Block Senders" to make sure that there aren't any addresses that end in @stlwed.com in your blocked sender list (if you find any in the blocked list, remove them).
  6. Click OK to accept your changes and return to the "Junk E-Mail" Protection page.
  7. Now select the option titled "Safe List".
  8. Add "@stlwed.com" (don't include the quotes) to your safe list, and then emails sent from any stlwed.com address should show up in your inbox.

Tips for Yahoo Users:
  1. From inside of your yahoo mailbox at the top right you should see three links "Mail For Mobile", "Upgrades" and "Options".
  2. Click "Options", make sure you are in the "Mail Options", and then click "Block Addresses"
If you see noreply 'at' stlwed 'dot' com or any other stlwed.com email address in the blocked address list, select it from the list, and click "Remove Block" to start receiving mail from stlwed again.
  3. Return to the "Mail Options" page (from step 2), but this time click "Spam Protection"
  4. Near the top you should see the title "Spam Filter" and it will specify whether "SpamGuard" is Off or On. If your SpamGuard is on it will give you the option to specify what to do with "messages SpamGuard identifies as Spam". Make sure you select the option to "Save these messages in the Bulk Folder" and I would suggest setting the time limit as large as you can (1 month). That way if yahoo's spam guard filter mistakes your emails for spam, at least they will get delivered to your spam folder (instead of getting blocked and deleted). Then when you register for the forum, check your yahoo inbox for the registration email, if it's not there be sure you check your spam/bulk folder.

Hope those help!

This problem continues to grow... even with adjusting the email settings apparently yahoo has updated their spam filters in the last week or two and several yahoo users simply arent' getting the emails from stlwed :(

If you use yahoo for your email account - I recommend switching to gmail or hotmail before joining this forum.
